Tuesday, 16 May 2006: The Man Who Always Fears the Lord

Proverbs 28: 14
‘Blessed is the man who always fears the Lord, but he who hardens his heart falls into trouble.’

How many times have you found yourself moving away from God, skip a few quiet times, stop reading your bible, forget to pray, life is going well, you’re busy, everything is in order, you don’t say that you don’t really need God anymore but your actions do. And then out of no where something happens, the wheels fall off and you go running back to God.

A healthy fear and reverence for God, keeps us on our toes, we remember that we are not worthy of his love and forgiveness, and the only reason our lives are going so well was because we were depending on Him and seeking him first in everything we did!

Cultivate a fear of our Awesome and Majestic Lord, that keeps you seeking Him and His way everyday, and thank him for the blessings that follow!

For the rest of the month I have found blessings and promises for different themes. Read them, memorise the ones that speak to you and use them that day. Also read the Proverbs of Solomon; God really blessed him with wisdom, which we can learn from.

Proverbs 3: 13-18:
“Blessed is the man who finds wisdom, the man who gains understanding”

Wisdom is often seen as Jesus.
So, by paraphrasing these verses, we can say that finding Jesus as well as gaining wisdom and understanding is:

More profitable than wealth
Yields better returns
More precious than rubies
More desirable than anything else
Enjoy a long life
Have riches and honour
Pleasant way
Peaceful Path
Embrace life
Receive blessing

Just some things in store for you when you pursue the wisdom of Jesus!

Sunday, 14 May 2006

Psalm 1:1-2:
‘Blessed is the man who does not walk in the counsel of the wicked or stand in the way of sinners or sit in the seat of mockers. But his delight is in the law of the Lord, and on his law he meditates day and night.’

The first part of this blessing shows us that we must make reading God’s word and meditating on it something we constantly do. We are to enjoy it and take pleasure in it.

And then…

Vs. 3:
‘He is like a tree planted by streams of water, which yields its fruit in season and whose leaf does not wither. Whatever he does prospers.’

We will be continually fed by God’s living water, we will be able to bear fruit in our lives (fruits of the Spirit), no part of our lives will be useless and die, and the best bit - whatever we do will prosper!

What does this verse speak to you personally about?

Lord, help us find time to study and learn your word so that we may grow and bear good fruit for you!

Saturday, 13 May 2006: Those who are Persecuted

“Blessed are those who are persecuted because of righteousness, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Blessed are you when people insult you, persecute you and falsely say all kinds of evil against you because of me.”

‘Jesus promised his disciples three things - that they would be completely fearless, absurdly happy, and in constant trouble.’ - G.K Chesterton

All who call Jesus Lord will in some way or another encounter persecution in their lives. Jesus was persecuted, his disciples were persecuted, and countless others in the history of the church.
The sooner we can accept that, the fuller we can live our lives as Christians and the more God can use us.

Friday, 12 May 2006: The Peacemakers

“Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called sons of God.”

Being Children of God means that we are at peace with God and at peace with ourselves and can live in peace with all men. We have entered into the peace of Christ and can bring God’s message of peace into our troubled world.

‘Throughout the Beatitudes Jesus clearly underscores that only those who have the life-changing qualities herein described are citizens of His kingdom.’
