What Does God Think About Dating?

There aren’t a lot of stories involving how men and women should come together in a relationship, Isaac and Rebekah are my favourite so today we’ll do a quick bible study of the story.

Read with me in Genesis 24: 1-66

Notice a few things:

I see God’s position as Abraham in the story.

Notice what both Rebekah and Isaac were doing at the time in the story.

What are the main parts that stand out for you? Why?

Is this how the world views dating?

Is this how you view dating?

For further reading, the story of Boaz and Ruth in the book of Ruth is really beautiful.

Lord, even though your word is not as clear cut as I would like it about finding the right partner, please help me to find your guidance about the issue always.

I don’t think God is for or against dating. I think He’d be against the destruction and hurt that can so often come out of a dating relationship, for sure. I can see how I’m benefiting, both personally and spiritually, from my time of being single. But He made us all different; some of us allow ourselves to be distracted and dragged down by our romances (yes the finger’s pointing back at me), but for others I believe it can be an uplifting and God-glorifying thing.

I could be WAY wrong! But that’s how I’m seeing it right now :)
