Change Agents 2007

Change Agents“Change Agents is a youth leaders training conference. It is a place where youth leaders of diverse cultures come to discuss changing ministry in a changing world.”

This year’s conference will be held at YFC Cyara in Hekpoort (Magaliesburg) from 9-12 August 2007. Cost for the full 3 nights is R470, or R390 if you can only get there on Friday evening. Discount if you register before 10 July!

Here’s the blurb explaining this year’s theme:

Taken from the Latin word for “new”, a NOVA occurs when a small insignificant star draws matter from a larger nearby star, creating a huge explosion that makes the small star very bright. In Daniel 12:3, the angel said, “Those who are wise will shine as bright as the sky, and those who lead many to righteousness will shine like the stars forever”.

To be God’s ‘Change Agents’ in this rapidly changing world, we ourselves need to be changed! Our minds must be renewed, and our lives and ministries transformed! We must “Think New” so that we can “Act New”. As we draw from Jesus, He will cause our lives and ministries to explode with new life, new love, and new power. It is time for NOVA.

To find out more about this exciting and valuable opportunity to get equipped in making a difference in the lives of the new generation, head over to the new Change Agents site. You’ll find a ton of information, interactive polls, contact details and the all-important registration form.

It’s time to Ignite!

It’s true that God reveals glimpses of Himself to us in everyday life, through a multitude of different ways. But there’s something extraordinary that happens when hundreds (or even thousands) of people draw together for corporate worship. Psalm 133:1 emphasises “how good and pleasant it is when brothers [and sisters] live together in unity!”

logo ignite smallWhen we as God’s children are united together in His presence with a concerted desire to bring Him honour and praises, the individual sparks are fanned into a roaring flame — in a word, ignition.

The vision for Ignite4101 (for the one and only One) was born out of this flame. From the web site:

Ignite is a worship movement that seeks to unite and ignite the hearts of young adults to burn with their whole life for the glory of God’s name.

The next Ignite is taking place on Friday 4 May at Alberton Methodist Church. It will be primarily geared towards students and young adults, but of course young and old alike are welcome. Squiz the flyer below for more details.

Tree63 tour is under way!

Tree63 at the Blues Room

I was fortunate enough to crack an invite to Tree63’s pre-tour press concert on Thursday night. It’s not often that you get to enjoy a band of this calibre in an intimate setting like the Blues Room. It was a magical evening and I’m stoked to report that this is good ol’ Tree, all the way. These guys haven’t changed their formula a bit, and it still makes for a spectacular show. Go and see them - I guarantee you won’t be sorry!

Oh, and keep an eye out for issue #4 of Press On mag, which will include an exclusive interview with the band.

re:fresh camp

re:freshFor young men and women who could use some re:freshment, this weekend retreat is happening from 2 - 4 March 2007 at the Môrester camp site in Magaliesburg. Here’s a bit of background info from the website, www.refreshcamp.co.za:

re:fresh is a Christian camp for young adults (out of school-ers). It is set up to provide you with a relaxing weekend while fellowshipping with Christian young adults of other traditions and restoring a fresh view of the glory of our Creator and Lord Jesus Christ. If you’ve started off this year and already feeling exhausted and snowed under, re:fresh camp is here for you.

re:fresh has been running annually for the last 5 years and has always provided a great time for those who attended, being true to the title, as I’m sure anyone who has been could tell you. Don’t miss this year!

Tree63 ‘Tour the Beloved Country’ dates

Tree63 TourThose Jire guys have published the dates for Tree63’s upcoming “Tour the Beloved Country” tour. And they are (da dum da dum)…

02 March - Pretoria (NG Gemeente Moreleta Park)
03 March - Port Elizabeth (UPE Sports Arena)
06 March - Pietermaritzburg (Golden Horse Casino)
09 March - Durban (Crusaders Sports Club)
10 March - Cape Town (His People Centre)
13 March - Potchefstroom (NW University Amphitheatre)
    15 March - Bloemfontein (Kruiskerk)
16 March - Johannesburg (Sandton Convention Centre)

These will be the “1st SA shows in 2 years” so book as soon as possible - with such a massive fan base I have a sneaking suspicion that sellouts are inevitable. Tickets are available from Computicket, Gospel Direct, Shoprite/Checkers and MTN stores or from the venue.

Just Jesus Session ‘07

Life 2007The New Years music festival in Ashburton KZN turns 9 this year. It’s moved to a new venue, but by the look of their map, it’s not too far down the road from where it was before. At only 120 bucks for the whole weekend (a bit less if you book before December) plus R60 per tent, it’s a really affordable getaway.

The JJS team have chosen life as the theme for this year’s festival, and they’re having a competition for all the songwriters out there: If you slap some chords and lyrics together - don’t forget the word ‘life’ somewhere in the chorus - your tune could get picked to be the theme song of the festival!

So come on… why waste New Years’ Eve sitting around at some lame party when you could take a road trip down to JJS, camp out and spend it worshipping God with Christians from around the country (they’re expecting 5000 people)?

Sunshine, volleyball, good music, good company? Sounds like a plan!

Press On Magazine Launch

There’s quite a bit going on when it comes to Christian media in SA at the moment. Well, say hello to the new kid on the block! Press On Magazine has been around since 2004, but it’s about to be relaunched in a bigger and better format.

You’ll want to keep an eye out for this youth mag, and I’m not just saying that ‘cos my sister’s the new editor! The team have already put plenty of effort into their first issue, and with the right mixture of creativity, drive and passion, they’re well on their way to see their vision become a reality.

Come along to the launch event at Brackenhurst Methodist Church and show your support.
