Change Agents 2007

Change Agents“Change Agents is a youth leaders training conference. It is a place where youth leaders of diverse cultures come to discuss changing ministry in a changing world.”

This year’s conference will be held at YFC Cyara in Hekpoort (Magaliesburg) from 9-12 August 2007. Cost for the full 3 nights is R470, or R390 if you can only get there on Friday evening. Discount if you register before 10 July!

Here’s the blurb explaining this year’s theme:

Taken from the Latin word for “new”, a NOVA occurs when a small insignificant star draws matter from a larger nearby star, creating a huge explosion that makes the small star very bright. In Daniel 12:3, the angel said, “Those who are wise will shine as bright as the sky, and those who lead many to righteousness will shine like the stars forever”.

To be God’s ‘Change Agents’ in this rapidly changing world, we ourselves need to be changed! Our minds must be renewed, and our lives and ministries transformed! We must “Think New” so that we can “Act New”. As we draw from Jesus, He will cause our lives and ministries to explode with new life, new love, and new power. It is time for NOVA.

To find out more about this exciting and valuable opportunity to get equipped in making a difference in the lives of the new generation, head over to the new Change Agents site. You’ll find a ton of information, interactive polls, contact details and the all-important registration form.

Namrock praise & worship weekend

Come, let us worship God

worshipersYet a time is coming and has now come when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth, for they are the kind of worshipers the Father seeks.John 4:23

I’ll never grow tired of discovering contemporary truth in ancient scripture. There is a worship revolution taking place in this country and beyond, and it’s happening now. The time has indeed come; the Father’s glory is being revealed in the light shining from every tribe, tongue and nation joining together to lift up His name.

It was truly uplifting to see hundreds of young people show up for Ignite recently, a gathering with the sole purpose of uniting the body in corporate worship. But what’s even more exciting is to see that God is carrying out His plan not just through a select bunch of people, but through independent groups all over the place. In Cape Town the same vision is being carried by Simply Worship. Young people are encountering God at the praise parties and “battles of the bands” organised by various local churches.

Of course all of these events are not an end in themselves, but serve to set the hearts of believers aflame so that their hearts may be changed, and eventually the world would be transformed by our lives lived out as acts of worship.

Here are some gatherings coming up during the next few weeks in and around Jo’burg:

  • Friday 18 May 2007 6pm: Worship at Trinity Methodist in Linden
  • Friday 25 May 2007 6:30pm: Aflame at Northfield Methodist in Benoni (youth)
  • Saturday 2 June 2007 8am: Jubilee Worship Seminar at Alberton Methodist Church
  • Saturday 9 June 2007 4pm: Battle of the Bands at Dutch Reformed Church Mondeor (youth)

For more details about any of these, check the calendar.

Praise the Lord!

It’s time to Ignite!

It’s true that God reveals glimpses of Himself to us in everyday life, through a multitude of different ways. But there’s something extraordinary that happens when hundreds (or even thousands) of people draw together for corporate worship. Psalm 133:1 emphasises “how good and pleasant it is when brothers [and sisters] live together in unity!”

logo ignite smallWhen we as God’s children are united together in His presence with a concerted desire to bring Him honour and praises, the individual sparks are fanned into a roaring flame — in a word, ignition.

The vision for Ignite4101 (for the one and only One) was born out of this flame. From the web site:

Ignite is a worship movement that seeks to unite and ignite the hearts of young adults to burn with their whole life for the glory of God’s name.

The next Ignite is taking place on Friday 4 May at Alberton Methodist Church. It will be primarily geared towards students and young adults, but of course young and old alike are welcome. Squiz the flyer below for more details.

Tree63 here in March

Tree63News flash! Legendary rockers Tree63 have announced via their MySpace blog that they’ll be returning home in March 2007 to play a tour of Durban, Cape Town, P.E., Jo’burg, Pretoria, Potch and Bloem (whew!). I’m sure that, as always, these shows will be a great testimony to how God has been using the band while they’ve been living in Nashville.

Frontman John Ellis says: “We love and miss South Africa so much and can’t wait to come home and see our families, friends and fans. We’ve been dying to play in South Africa for ages - it’s going to be amazing.”

Yes, it sure will be. It’s fantastic that after huge success and acclaim in the States, Tree still have their roots firmly planted in African soil. Yay!

UPDATE: Tour dates have been released.

Press On magazine now on sale

Press On Issue #1 CoverPress On has launched… with a bang! More than 500 people rocked up at Brackenhurst Methodist last night for a huge party. With tons of giveaways and a whole pile of black and orange balloons falling from the ceiling, excitement was in the air. Roxy played emcee for the evening and Reverend Peter offered a prayer of blessing for the magazine. Return to Sender, Same Old Story and Long Story Short kept the crowd entertained.

The mag itself looks just incredible. You can see how many late nights went into getting every article, interview and page layout just right. Congratulations to the team, this is something to be immensely proud of. All the best for every issue to come; with God at the center I’m sure you will live up to your name.

The web site is up and running at www.presson.co.za so go and download a subscription form now!
